Airsoft Guns, Safety & Legal Problems
Basic safety
It is necessary that if you intend to be using any airsoft gun that you know methods to prevent major injury, or even the danger of being shot from a law enforcement officer. If you have ever seen or held an airsoft gun you would know exactly what I mean. Airsoft guns are the most realistic looking sport guns you can buy. First lets us take a look at the actual gun itself. Airsoft BB's usually are 6-8mm and move ~30-180ms. As opposed to conventional BB guns the ammo is made out of plastic. Now don't let that trick you, there's room for really serious damage here. The very last thing you wish to have take place is a plastic BB traveling at 180ms in direct correlation with your eye ball. This is definitely the first thing that I will cover.
Correct eye protection-What I mean by proper eye protection isn't tossing on your own favorite pair of shades, or even raiding your dad's garage for his preferred pair of safety glasses. I would suggest paintball safety glasses or something of possibly increased protection. Yet another thing that is at risk (not many people think of this) is the teeth. Exactly how enjoyable would it be if a BB came darting at you and struck you right in your tooth. You will need to handle these guns like these are real.

Lawful
There's two states in america that i know of that don't allow the use of airsoft guns. These states are New Jersey and Michigan.
Coloration of the muzzle: It is REALLY important. It is necessary by federal law that any toy/airsoft gun that has a resemblance to a real gun must have the nozzle colored orange. Additionally don't try having these to school as well as work, even if they're potentially safe, a lot of troubles may arise.
One thing you don't want to have take place is for your child to be seen by lets say a police officer that has the barrel painted for this example black. That officer may see him/her as a danger to him and to the public, and because of this your son or daughter may get shot. You hear cases all over the place where people possess items which look like harmful weaponry that get shot by police officers.
Children/teens however go about things in a distinctive manor. They often play the game in backyards or public court areas such as parks. This can trigger quite a few problems. In some locations it's legal to play them in public like in parks, however you will have to get in touch with the proper authorities to confirm the rules of using them in public.
